In this section you will find a treasure trove filed with ideas about how to make your next practice session more engaging and effective. You will never run out of ideas or ways to keep practice fresh! If you do, we challenge you to let us know and we have oodles more we can add to your tool belt ;-)
The principles behind these challenges is to test yourself with how competently you can play a particular passage/scale/section so you can effectively play them in your sleep/upside-down/backwards. Ask yourself these kinds of questions (this list is only some of the challenges and the possibilities are endless...):
How many times can I play this accurately in 3 minutes?
Can I play this with a whacky rhythm?
Can I play this on a tabletop whilst still maintaining the correct fingering?
Can I play the RH part in my LH? or vice versa? Do I know it well enough to be able to do this?
Can I play this with my eyes closed/from memory?
Can I play this bit, then play another bit in another piece and come back to the original bit and play it again accurately?
Can I play it super slowly and not lose my focus?
If you are unsure about each of the challenges, please watch the workshop at the top of this Module or ask us at your next lesson.
In this section you will find small video ideas on how to deal with various elements of practice as they arise.
If there are any particular topics issues you really grapple with in the practice room or in your learning in general, please reach out to us at any stage and leave us a comment on what you would like a video solution to, we are always expanding this library based on your needs. Check back often for our latest videos! :-)
